Mandion of Hamko
This is a complex group of 18th and 19th century buildings, few of which have survived to date; it used to be the serai of Zeinel Bey, grandfather of Ali Pasha, the father of Ali Pasha's mother, who was called Hamko. The buildings were surrounded by a wall with crenellations and secret entrances. The fortress-like structure of the building complex and its imposing buildings reflected the wealth and influence of this powerful family, the most eminent among Muslims in Konitsa, with a great estate in the region and fiefdoms in Thessaly. Visitors to Upper Konitsa can only see remains of its past grandeur in the imposing arched entrance, the high tower (koulia) and some auxiliary buildings, as well as parts of the tall surrounding wall of the complex.
