Church of Holy Mary of Konitsa, “Kokkini Panagia”
In a hilly location, to the northwest and a short distance of the city is the church of Kokkini Panagia (Red Madonna). The church is dedicated to Zoodochos Pigi (Life-giving fountain) and was built at the end of the 13th century in the type of a single-aisle, wooden-roofed basilica. The masonry of the temple is mainly consisted by plinths, which come from a nearby Roman early Christian building. Although most of the frescoes of the temple were destroyed, few but of remarkable art, are still preserved in the sanctuary and date from the end of the 14th century. It is probably a parish church of an adjacent settlement, which does not exist today.
