Church of St. Nikolaos (Metropolitan Church) Konitsa

The church of Agios Nikolaos is the parish church of Upper Konitsa and is located next to the metropolitan palace. The current church dates from 1842 and was built on the site of an older one that had been in this location since 1612. The temple's masonry is elaborate in most of its parts. Externally the temple is rectangular. Internally it is divided into three aisles and has small and larger domes. Also, there are two gynaeconitises at different levels. The iconostasis of the church is carved in wood with eight large images and thirty smaller ones in two rows. Most of the portable icons, which are kept in the temple today, are from the 1850s and later.
